Transporation Secretary Elaine Chao got into a heated exchange with protesters Tuesday demonstrating against her husband, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, over the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” family separation policy.
The protesters played audio first obtained by ProPublica of crying children who had been separated from their families because of the so-called zero tolerance border policy.
“Why are you separating families?” one of the protesters shouts at McConnell left a dinner at Georgetown University with business executives from the group Cambia Health Solutions.
The video shows McConnell entering the vehicle while his wife is seen engaging in a shouting match with the young protesters.
“Why don’t you leave my husband alone?” Chao screams.
Asked again why he’s helping Trump separate families, Chao said. “He is not!”
“He’s got the power to stop it!” one of the protesters fires back.
“You leave my husband alone!” she shouts again.
“How does he sleep at night?!” a protester can be heard shouting before Chao climbs into the vehicle.
