“Last Week Tonight” host John Oliver is accusing crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) of using “disingenuous and predatory” tactics to inflict “emotional manipulation” on women looking to obtain abortions, calling it “coercive” and “bullshit.”
“The tactics that CPCs often use are disingenuous and predatory, and it is absolutely critical that people understand that,” Oliver said.
“Right now, it is way too easy for a religious organization to disguise its true nature, establish a CPC, and provide women with dangerously poor information about one of their most important health choices,” he continued.
The Hill added:
The comedian registered his own CPC, “Vanned Parenthood,” in New York state to prove how easy it is to set up a center.
Oliver brought in former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Rachel Dratch to reprise her character “Wanda Jo Oliver” and demonstrate what he said anti-abortion organizations like CPCs could get away with.
“I tell women if they get an abortion, it’ll make a ghost baby that’ll haunt their hoo-ha forever!” Dratch said.
“This is all perfectly legal,” Oliver concluded.
