Joe Biden Rips Trump’s Trans Military Ban: Every Qualified American Should Be Allowed To Serve

Former Vice President Joe Biden on Wednesday ripped President Trump’s call for a ban on transgender people serving in the military, saying that every qualified American should be able to serve.

“Every patriotic American who is qualified to serve in our military should be able to serve. Full stop,” Biden tweeted.

Trump on Wednesday tweeted that he would ban transgender people from any military service, saying he had made the decision after consulting with “my generals and military experts.”

“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military,” Trump tweeted.

“Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you.”

The Hill added:

The decision is a reversal from an Obama administration decision last year that lifted the ban on allowing transgender people to serve openly.

Biden had previously told the LGBTQ community to hold Trump’s administration accountable for his “pledge” to be an ally.

“Hold President Trump accountable for his pledge to be your friend,” Biden told a private LGBT gala hosted by the Democratic National Committee last month. “Just because you don’t have Barack and me in the White House doesn’t mean it’s time to give up, keep quiet, stay on the sidelines.”

The Trump administration said in January that the president is “determined to protect the rights of all Americans, including the LGBTQ community.”

“President Trump continues to be respectful and supportive of LGBTQ rights, just as he was throughout the election,” a White House statement said at the time.
