ICE Spokesman Quits: I Can No Longer ‘Bear The Burden’ Of Spreading Lies For Trump

James Schwab, the San Francisco spokesman for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), has reportedly resigned because he could no longer “bear the burden” of perpetuating “misleading facts” for the Trump administration about recent ICE raids in Northern California.

Schwab was “frustrated” with the statements officials made arguing that 800 undocumented immigrants were able to avoid arrest because Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf (D) issued a public warning about immigration raids the day before the four-day operation began, sources told the San Francisco Chronicle in an article published Monday.

“864 criminal aliens and public safety threats remain at large in the community, and I have to believe that some of them were able to elude us thanks to the mayor’s irresponsible decision,” acting ICE Director Thomas Homan said on the third day of the operation.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions said last Wednesday in Sacramento that Homan had told him “ICE failed to make 800 arrests that they would have made if the mayor had not acted as she did. Those are 800 wanted aliens that are now at large in that community.”

The Hill added:

The next day, President Trump said that “close to 1,000” people were expected to be arrested before the mayor issued her warning.

The Trump administration recently sued California for three laws it argues prevent immigration officials from carrying out federal immigration law.

Trump will visit California on Tuesday for the first time as president to inspect prototypes for his proposed wall along the southern border.
