Former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, who is “seriously considering” an independent run for president, made a false claim about former President Ronald Reagan’s dressing habits during an appearance Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”
During the interview, the self-made billionaire claimed Reagan “never took his jacket off” when he worked in the Oval Office — an assertion that is untrue.
“Morning Joe” co-host Mika Brzezinski asked Schultz to name his favorite GOP and Democratic presidents of the past 50 years during a rapid-fire questions segment.
“Ronald Reagan never took his jacket off in the Oval Office in eight years. Why? Because of his respect in the dignity of the Oval Office,” he said, while discussing his main takeaway from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library.
Schultz said he had “just came from” the library and he had “great respect” for the Republican president.
A quick glance of the Reagan Library’s photo gallery shows several instances during Reagan’s presidential tenure, from 1981 to 1989, in which he was dressed down while in the Oval Office.
Many photos showed him wearing short-sleeve shirts and even a tracksuit.
The New York Times’ Deputy Washington Editor, Jonathan Weisman, shared a collection of photos demonstrating this fact:

Schultz named Franklin Delano Roosevelt as his favorite Democratic president of the past 50 years, despite the fact that FDR died in 1945, 74 years ago.

What about the War on Drugs? Trickle-down economics? The AIDS crisis?
