Just minutes after the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was reported on Friday night, embattled Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) was already fundraising off of the vacancy created by Ginsburg’s death.
According to the local political website Iowa Starting Line, Ernst used news of Ginsburg’s death as an opportunity to raise campaign cash.
“BREAKING: the future of the Supreme Court is on the line,” Ernst’s campaign blasted out in a fundraising email shortly after RGB’s death was announced.
“About 10 minutes after RBG’s death was announced, Joni Ernst’s campaign sent out a text fundraising off of the Supreme Court,” Iowa Starting Line reported.
A screenshot of the fundraiser shared by the news outlet reads: “The future of the Supreme court is on the LINE! We MUST save the Senate to protect the Supreme Court from a liberal takeover. Give any amount and get matched 5:1!”

Ernst is being challenged in November by Democrat Theresa Greenfield.
