Georgia High School Teacher Taken Into Custody After Reports Of Shots Fired At School

Georgia police say officers responding to reports of shots fired at a high school and a teacher who may have been barricaded in a classroom, is in custody.

The Dalton Police Department tweeted at about 12:30 p.m. that a subject, believed to be a teacher, was barricaded in a classroom at Dalton High School.

The police department, located in northwest Georgia, said one student “apparently sustained an ankle injury running inside the school during the evacuation. Student is being treated by EMS at the school.”

The account later tweeted that the teacher was in custody and that “students will be taken to the NE GA Trade Center. Parents should go there.”

The high school’s website says it has 2,000 students.

The incident comes two weeks after a 19-year-old gunman opened fire at a high school in Parkland, Fla., killing 17 people and injuring several others.
