The retired lieutenant general who was credited with turning around the government’s disastrous initial response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005 by then-President George W. Bush, fired back at President Trump over his weekend tweets attacking Puerto Rican leaders.
“The mayor’s living on a cot, and I hope the president has a good day at golf,” Honoré said in response to Trump’s tweets accusing San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz of “poor leadership” in her response to the humanitarian crisis in Puerto Rico.
In another CNN interview, the former general accused Trump of not responding to the disaster with more care and attention because the victims are “people of color.”
“The president has shown again, you don’t give a damn about poor people, you don’t give a damn about people of color and the SOB that rides around in Air Force One is denying services needed by the people of Puerto Rico,” Honoré said.
Puerto Rico is Trump's Katrina.
