In response to the latest deadly school shooting in Florida, Fox News host Shepard Smith took to the air to read off a lengthy list of fatal school shootings in the U.S. since the Columbine High School massacre in 1999.
“Since Columbine in 1999, there have been 25 fatal, active school shooting incidents at elementary and high schools in America,” Smith said, before reading a list of shootings.
The most recent addition to the list was a deadly shooting that took place Wednesday afternoon at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. The Broward County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that 17 people were killed and it was not immediately clear how many people may have been injured in the attack.
Police identified a 19-year-old former student as the suspect. He was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon.
There have been 18 school shootings in the first 45 days of 2018, according to Everytown for Gun Safety, a gun control advocacy group.
