Fox’s Chris Wallace Rips AG Barr: He’s Acting More Like Trump’s ‘Counselor’ Than The Attorney General

Fox News anchor Chris Wallace blasted Attorney General William Barr for sounding more like President Trump’s personal counselor than the Attorney General of the United States at a press conference Thursday ahead of the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

“The Attorney General seemed almost to be acting as the counselor for the defense, the counselor for the president, rather than the attorney general, talking about his motives, his emotions,” Wallace told “America’s Newsroom” anchors Bill Hemmer and Sandra Smith.

“Really, as I say, making a case for the president,” he added.

MSNBC’s Nicole Wallace also blasted Barr’s performance, asking: “Why have we heard from Barr five times if the Mueller report is so awesome for Donald Trump? We have now heard from someone who is a human shield of Mueller’s findings five times. If Mueller exonerated Trump … why have we heard from Barr five times?”

Minutes after Barr’s press conference ended, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) demanded that special counsel Robert Mueller testify “as soon as possible” before his committee and “no later than May 23.”

“As I have already communicated to the Department of Justice, I request your testimony before the Judiciary Committee as soon as possible — but, in any event, no later than May 23, 2019,” Nadler wrote in a letter to Mueller.

Nadler separately tweeted that the American people deserve to hear from the special counsel himself.

“It is clear Congress and the American people must hear from Special Counsel Robert Mueller in person to better understand his findings,” Nadler wrote.

“We are now requesting Mueller to appear before @HouseJudiciary as soon as possible,” he added.

“We cannot take Attorney General Barr’s word for it. We must read the full Mueller report, and the underlying evidence. This is about transparency and ensuring accountability, Nadler added in a subsequent tweet.
