Fox News Host Mocks Trump’s Military Parade: Give Him ‘Mini Replicas’ Of Tanks To Play With Instead

Fox News host Shepard Smith mocked President Trump on Wednesday for demanding a massive military parade, saying top military officials should instead give the president “little mini replicas” of tanks and other equipment to play with instead of a parade.

Smith made the remarks after Fox News correspondent Jennifer Griffin reported that she’s heard from military officials that they have “more pressing and important issues on their plates, and planning a parade is not one of them.”

“He could go see the tanks at a military base if he wanted to,” Smith responded.

“Or they could give him replicas, little mini replicas. I mean, he wants to see what he has,” he added.

“You can get the little plastic ones and lay them out on the table and say ‘here you go.’ ”

The White House confirmed on Tuesday that Trump had directed the Department of Defense to look into throwing a military parade.

Defense Secretary James Mattis told reporters on Wednesday that the Pentagon is working on options for the event to present to Trump, but declined to discuss potential cost.

Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) called the proposal “a fantastic waste of money to amuse the president,” and urged Trump to funnel the funds that would be spent on a parade into efforts to “fix military housing, hire more [Veterans Affairs] doctors… or give more flight training time.”

Sen. Brian Schatz (D-) tweeted: “A military parade costs millions. Let’s fix military housing, hire more VA doctors, fund telehealth, DOD schools, support the commissaries, daycare for families, or give more flight training time. Our highest defense priority must be the service members, not the politicians.”
