Fox News’ Fox & Friends co-hosts spent part of their Thursday morning broadcast defending President Trump’s weekend tweet attacking CNN, saying the tweet proves “that’s the kind of guy that you’re going to want to represent the United States of America when he does have to come up against North Korea, when he does have to have talks tomorrow with Putin.”
President Trump took his attacks on the free press to a new level Sunday morning, tweeting out an edited version of a 2007 video that shows him body-slamming and punching a person with the CNN logo superimposed on his head at a wrestling match.
His weekend attack on the free press came just days after Trump’s press communications staffer Sarah Huckabee Sanders told the White House Press Corps that “the president in no way, form or fashion has ever promoted or encouraged violence.”
Appearing on “This Week with George Stephanopoulos”, Republican strategist Anna Navarro called Trump’s Twitter statements “an incitement to violence” against the free press and warned that he “is going to get somebody killed in the media.”
Here’s how Fox & Friends co-hosts Ainsley Earhardt and Brian Kilmeade defended the president’s actions (transcript via Media Matters):
AINSLEY EARHARDT (CO-HOST): Well the very reason that the left doesn’t like him is because he’s not going to be intimidated. He will put these videos out there to say this is fake news. Yet, that’s the kind of guy that you’re going to want to represent the United States of America when he does have to come up against North Korea, when he does have to have talks tomorrow with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin.
