At Least 15 Injured, Multiple Dead After Gunman Opens Fire Inside Texas Church

Authorities in Sutherland Springs, Texas have confirmed that there are multiple casualties in a mass shooting at the First Baptist Church Sunday, reports ABC News.

One witness told local ABC station KSAT that a man walked into First Baptist Church and opened fire at around 11.30am local time. The church is located in the 500 block of 4th Street in the small, south Texas town about 40 miles east of San Antonio.

MSNBC on Sunday reported that the church shooting has left “at least 15 injured and multiple people dead,” and that the shooter has been “taken down.”

An MSNBC producer wrote, “Source in TX tells me as many as 10-15 dead in church shooting in Sutherland Springs, near San Antonio; suspect is down.”

Connally Memorial Center in nearby Floresville told ABC News it has received six people from the shooting.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called the shooting an “evil act” in a Sunday tweet: “Our prayers are with all who were harmed by this evil act. Our thanks to law enforcement for their response. More details from DPS soon.”
