The FBI says it’s investigating Washington GOP state Rep. Matt Shea for distributing a four-page manifesto calling for the death of all “all males” if they do not yield to Christian religion.
The Christian manifesto titled “Biblical Basis for War,” outlines 14 steps for seizing power and calls for an end to abortions, an end to same-sex marriage, and if enemies do not yield to biblical law, all males will be executed.
“If they do not yield – kill all males,” the document reads.
FBI representatives confirmed to a local NBC affiliate KHQ 6 that it is investigating the document, which was reported to the bureau by Spokane County Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich.
“The document Mr. Shea wrote is not a Sunday school project or an academic study,” Knezovich added to the Washington Spokesman-Review. “It is a ‘how to’ manual consistent with the ideology and operating philosophy of the Christian Identity/Aryan Nations movement and the Redoubt movement of the 1990s.”
Shea took to Facebook Live this week to defend the document, calling it part of a “sermon” and claiming it has been taken out of context.
“First of all, it was a summary of a series of sermons on biblical war in the Old Testament as part of a larger discussion on the history of warfare,” he said on Wednesday.
“This document, in and of itself, was not a secret. I’ve actually talked about portions of this document publicly.”
A spokeswoman for the Northwest Credit Union Association told Spokane Public Radio that they had requested the return of a $1,000 donation to Shea’s reelection campaign.
“His beliefs do not reflect the views and values of our organization, member credit unions or customers,” the spokeswoman said.
