Former Trump campaign adviser Sam Nunberg called into MSNBC on Monday to say that he is refusing to comply with a subpoena to appear before the grand jury in special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
“When I got the subpoena it was ridiculous to me. Why should I hand them over every email I’ve had with Steve Bannon or Roger Stone since November. Since November of 2015?” Nunberg said during an interview with MSNBC’s Katy Tur.
“Let him arrest me,” Nunberg told the Post about a two-page subpoena for documents he received tied to President Trump and nine others. “Mr. Mueller should understand I am not going in on Friday.”
He also said that he was planning on appearing on Bloomberg TV this afternoon to tear up the subpoena.
“I think it would be funny if they arrested me,” Nunberg said on MSNBC. “I think it would be really really funny if they wanted to arrest me because I don’t want to spend 80 hours going over emails with Steve Bannon and Roger Stone.”
Nunberg claims he’s “not a fan” of Trump, adding that the president treated him “very badly” during the campaign.
“But here, when I get a subpoena like this, [Trump] is right. It’s a witch hunt.”
When Tur asked him if he believes Mueller’s team has any information to indicate Trump did something illegal, Nunberg said, “I think they may.”
He said he believes that because of “the way that they asked questions about anything I heard after I was fired from the campaign.
“It insinuated to me that he may have done something,” Nunberg said.

Because this interview was so bonkers between @KatyTurNBC and Sam Nunberg, I'm coming out of transcription retirement.

That interview Sam Nunberg just did was crazy on so many fronts—but when he said he'd rather risk prison than release emails with him, Roger Stone, and Steve Bannon "talking about how much we hate people"–that's just LOL (and obviously bullshit)

Holy shit. That Sam Nunberg MSNBC interview was one of the craziest bits of political TV ever. Yelling about old Clinton scandals while admitting he thinks Trump is guilty, but says he won’t cooperate w/ Mueller because he wants to protect his emails w/ Roger Stone, Steve Bannon.

Former campaign aide Sam Nunberg on @msnbc: “I’m not interested” in handing over emails to Mueller.
Subpoenas rarely come with a clause requiring “interest” on the part of the person subpoenaed.
