The Dow Jones briefly plummeted over 1,500 points on Monday, dropping below 25,000 and erasing its gain for the year as President Trump was delivering a speech in Ohio bragging about his economic achievements.
As President Trump delivered his remarks touting the benefits of Republican tax cuts, CNN, MSNBC and Fox News all cut into their coverage of his speech to report on the massive U.S. stock selloff.
The market’s slump began Friday when the Dow dropped 666 points as investors worried that creeping signs of higher inflation and interest rates could derail the market’s record-setting rally. The Dow closed at a record high of 26,616 two weeks ago.
