In a chaotic scene that played out on live television, armed black store owners were immediately placed in hand restraints by LAPD officers which allowed the looters to get away.
A reporter intervened during the arrest and attempted to explain to the officers that they were allowing the looters to get away and they had mistakenly placed the owners and friends of the owners in detainment.
“Sir, they’re the store owners. They’re protecting the store the looters are over there,” the reporter tells the officers, pointing in the direction the looters ran.
“Relax,” one of the officers can be heard telling the reporter.
After she again tries to explain that they have the store owners under arrest, a confused police officer explains that he was placing the three store owners under arrest, believing they were still the looters.
After she again explains that they are the store owners, the officer asks her to point in the direction the looters ran.
