Committee To Protect Journalists Hosting First-Ever ‘Press Oppressors Awards’ In Response To Trump

The Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has announced on Twitter that it would be holding the first-ever “Global Press Oppressors Awards” next week at the same time as President Trump’s “Dishonest and Corrupt Media Awards.”

“CPJ will be announcing THE GLOBAL PRESS OPPRESSORS AWARDS on Monday at 5:00pm,” the committee tweeted on Friday.

“Subjects will cover Thinnest Skinned & Outrageous Use of Laws, in various categories for world leaders. Stay tuned!”

The Hill added:

A spokesperson for the group did not immediately return a request for comment.

The organization hosts an annual “Press Freedom Awards” and annually documents instances of journalists being killed or imprisoned in their line of work.

Trump, who often lashes out at the media and attacks reports about him and his administration as “fake news,” announced his award ceremony earlier this week.

Trump asked his supporters to help him award a “Fake News Trophy” late last month, before later suggesting a competition to determine which news network “is the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me).”
