CNN To Boycott White House Christmas Party For The First Time After Trump’s Attacks

CNN will boycott the annual White House Christmas party for the first time amid ongoing tensions between President Trump and the network.

“In light of the President’s continued attacks on freedom of the press and CNN, we do not feel it is appropriate to celebrate with him as invited guests,” a spokesperson for the CNN told The Hill.

“We will send a White House reporting team to the event and report on it if news warrants,” the spokesperson added in a statement.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders took to Twitter to celebrate the news on Tuesday, tweeting, “Christmas comes early! Finally, good news from @CNN.”

On Monday, Trump tweeted that all networks, except for Fox News, should be part of a contest to determine which is “the most dishonest, corrupt and/or distorted in its political coverage of your favorite President (me).”

Trump also attacked CNN on Saturday, tweeting: “[email protected] is MUCH more important in the United States than CNN, but outside of the U.S., CNN International is still a major source of (Fake) news, and they represent our Nation to the WORLD very poorly. The outside world does not see the truth from them!”

CNN fired back: “It’s not CNN’s job to represent the U.S to the world,” the network’s public relations team tweeted. “That’s yours. Our job is to report the news. #FactsFirst.”

Trump has repeatedly attacked CNN throughout his campaign and presidency, labeling them “fake news.” Trump has often praised Fox News and its anchors like Sean Hannity for their coverage and ratings.
