Beto O’Rourke confirmed to a TV station in his home state of Texas on Wednesday that he will run for president in 2020, reports The Independent.
The former three-term U.S. congressman who gained a national following with his 2018 election battle against Senator Ted Cruz told the KTSM news channel: ”I’m really proud of what El Paso did and what El Paso represents.
“It’s a big part of why I’m running. This city is the best example of this country at its best,” he added.
The 46-year-old is expected to formally announce his intention to seek the Democratic nomination later this week, reports the news outlet.
In a Vanity Fair article that came out on Wednesday, O’Rourke said “You can probably tell that I want to run. I do. I think I’d be good at it.”
