Attorney General Barr: Mueller Report ‘Does Not Exonerate Trump’ Of Obstruction Of Justice

U.S. Attorney General William Bar on Sunday delivered a four-page letter summarizing the principal conclusions of special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation to Congress.

“The Special Counsel states that ‘while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him,’” Barr quoted Mueller as writing on the obstruction of justice question.

The Department of Justice “determined not to make a traditional prosecutorial judgment,” Barr added.

According to Barr’s summary, the investigation also found that neither President Trump nor any of his aides conspired or coordinated with the Russian government’s 2016 election interference.

Barr says Mueller did not reach any conclusions in evaluating the president’s conduct, leaving the decision to prosecute him to the Justice Department.

Barr says in the letter that he and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein reached the conclusion without considering constitutional questions regarding bringing criminal charges against a sitting president.
