Ambassador McFaul: ‘Most Un-American Speech Ever Delivered By An American President’

Former U.S. Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul ripped President Donald Trump’s address at Mount Rushmore on Friday as “un-American.”

“Trump has no idea what words like fascism and totalitarianism mean,” McFaul, now a professor at Stanford, tweeted on Friday after sharing a clip of the president failing to pronounce the word, “totalitarianism.”

“To those who wrote this speech and those senior [White House] officials who approved this speech, shame on you. Perhaps the most un-American speech ever delivered by an American president and on the July 4th weekend no less,” he explained.

McFaul also ripped Trump’s use of the word “fascism” during his speech to attack the so-called “new far-left.”

“This use of the word ‘fascism’ is completely outrageous, inappropriate, inaccurate, ahistorical, and an insult to the families of tens of millions of Americans and others who lost loved ones killed by real fascists in concentration camps and on the battlefield. Just shameful,” he tweeted.

“Hitler was a fascist,” McFaul added in a subsequent tweet.

“He killed tens of millions of innocent civilians and soldiers, including Americans,” he wrote. “Stalin was a totalitarian dictator. He also killed tens of millions. No American should ever be compared to Hitler or Stalin by anyone, let alone by their president.”
