After Golf Trip, Trump Shares Debunked Conspiracy Theory That MSNBC Host Murdered Woman

President Donald Trump on Saturday repeated a debunked conspiracy theory hinting that MSNBC “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough is responsible for the death of Lori Klausutis, a 28-year-old aide who worked for Scarborough when he was a Republican member of Congress representing Florida’s 1st Congressional District.

The medical examiner, Michael Berkland, determined that an abnormal heart rhythm caused Klausutis to lose consciousness and fall, fatally striking her head. She was discovered in Scarborough’s office in Fort Walton Beach, lying on her back with her head near a desk, according to a police report.

“A blow to her head? Body found under his desk?” Trump tweeted on Saturday hours after playing a round of golf. “Left Congress suddenly? Big topic of discussion in Florida…and, he’s a Nut Job (with bad ratings). Keep digging, use forensic geniuses!”

It is the fourth time this month that the president has accused Scarborough of killing Klausutis.

“In 2001, a staffer for @JoeNBC named Lori Klausutis tragically passed away,” Pod Save America Co-host Tommy Vietor tweeted. “She had an abnormal heart rhythm and collapsed, striking her head. She left behind a husband and relatives. It is truly vile that the President spreads conspiracy theories about her death.”

VOX’s Aaron Rupar tweeted, “Trump accusing Joe Scarborough of murder over an accidental death that is not a cold case is so fucking insane. He’s monstrous and we’re numb to it.”
